Day 2 of the journey to the start line
Throughout this account of my journey over the next 47 days, I will be brutally honest about everything. Holding stuff back will not give anyone a true account of the journey. This is not easy for me. I'm a very private person, especially when it comes to my conditions. I don't think telling people about them all the time helps anyone. And if I moaned every time I was in pain, I wouldn't stop moaning. So I don't!
So there we go!
Day 2 started a little rough, I must say. I am a person who has, in medical speak, a very long redundant bowel. This means it is not the usual 1.5ft long compact sausage which fits neatly into my abdominal cavity. It is an extra foot long! So needless to say, that causes a few issues! Basically it doesn't work without the help of an overdose of laxatives, often the same stuff you have for prepping for a colonoscopy! I know, over share! 🤦♂️ But if you want a true account of what the is going to be like, you need all the facts, right? So my bowel doesn't work! So note my suprise this morning when it went into overdrive for the 1st time in my life, and decided to work all on its own! Not something I expected or need when we had another long journey ahead! Plus the effects of dehydration, which is not great for the start of a big event!
Some would say it's nerves. But I'm not nervous. Not yet anyway!
The journey after the brief weird incident was very long. 10 hours in total. We absolutely love the BYD car. It's very comfortable and she can really move. But charging had been challenging. Especially when you get into the Highlands. But with a bit of driving around through a couple of villages, we managed it. It was such a stunning drive. Really beautiful. The scenery is like nothing I've ever seen before. The colours of the hills and heather is incredible. So beautiful, even in the rain.
We stooped at a place called 'Taste Perthshire' to charge the car and thought we would have a bigger lunch than tea. So we all ordered a jacket potato. What arrived was the largest spud I've ever seen. I'm not sure what fertiliser they use here, but wow! And tasty too. Then, very unexpectedly, the waitress came over and said that it was on the business. I was totally gobsmacked. What a lovely thing to do. Then as we went to go, more people in the restaurant said good luck. They had been reading the back of my top and goggling the event. ❤️
So we arrived in John O'groats at the guest house at about 6pm. Later than planned, but it diddnt matter. It is a really quaint little guest house. The owners are absolutely lovely. Really kind and accommodating. Our room is lovely too. Poor Pam has to share a room with me and Cat for the next 2 nights! We are going to all get to know each other very well! 🤣
It was lovely to see Neil. He had got here earlier in the day, and was quite settled. The gang was all together. We spent the evening chatting about all sorts. Now it's off to bed and hoping for a good night's sleep all round. We will find out who snores and who doesn't! 🤣
Tomorrow it's the day before...
