Day 2 of the challenge.
Day 2. Wow! What can I say about this day, other than, it was the hardest thing I've ever done. The hills, were not hills. They were mountains. Apparently 1900 feet of climbing.
The conditions were super tough. A very strong headwind, coupled with immense cambers. They were so severe that I had to wheel using one arm, up hill. Then there was the road surface. So bumpy. The roads clearly havnt been resurfaced in a very long time. So even in the car, I was told, it was awful to drive over. Every hill was tougher than the last, and they diddnt stop. Some must have been over category 7. Needless to say, I was almost in tears on numerous occasions. I was shouting choice words at the surface. Begging the cambers to stop. But they diddnt. They just carried on. I have never done anything that hard in my life. Not even the 12 hour wheel. My left wrist was so painful. I definitely had tendinitis. And my whole body was hurting. My lower back was also very sore. I had slipped a disc a couple of years ago in my L4-5. The apin I was experiencing there was very similar! But onwards and literally upwards I travelled. Until finally I finished! I was so relieved.
We found our guest house for the night! A beautiful old house from 1860. Original features too. No Internet, hence why I'm writing this after the fact! No tv either! No kettle in the room, and there was an unbearable smell of cigarette smoke. Unfortunately that smell is one which sets off my Fibromyalgia. I am very triggered by smells. I wish I wasn't. But there was nothing we could do, so we just opened all the windows we could.
For evening food, Cat managed to find a cafe. It was so lovely. It felt like we were back in Kathmandu. On the side of a mountain. Very rustic and small. The food was lovely and they catered for gluten free. So I had a Jacket potatoes with cheese and beans. The owners were lovely, and kind. They gave us staff discount for our food. So I promised we would give a review. I would have anyway. It was lovely. Everything was so carefully thought out, and the food was lovely.
I actually slept well that night as well. For the 1st time in 4 days!
